We are building futures with working hands.

We believe the youth of the Philippines can build a better future for themselves, their families, our communities, and our country. They just need to be given the chance.

You can help us give it to them.

Working Hands provides technical vocation scholarships to out-of-school youth. Sponsor a scholar or donate to the general scholarship fund and help us give these kids a dream they can work for.

WHO WE ARE

Working Hands dreams of an empowered youth sector capable of pursuing gainful and dignified living centered on Christian values. We are a humanitarian organization that provides monetary scholarships to deserving out-of-school youth, who all come from financially-challenged families.

The scholarship covers a one-and-a-half-year vocational & technical training at any Don Bosco Training Center in the Philippines at the scholar’s own choice.

Working Hands began as a program by the Young Upbeat Professionals for Peace (YUPPEACE), a faith community of young professionals founded in 1994 for the 10th World Youth Day held in the Philippines. It was formalized as an independent organization in October of 1996 and, since then, has served over 700 scholars.

OUR MISSION

We believe in the capacity of the Filipino, the dignity of their labor, and the value of self-development. We aim to produce a new breed of technical experts equipped, not only with the necessary skills and knowledge for gainful employment, but also with strong Christian values and Salesian formation.

The scholarship program we offer covers a one-year technical-vocation scholarship at any Don Bosco Training Center in the Philippines.

THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Don Bosco Schools in the Philippines, through its various Don Bosco Training Centers, offer Industrial Technician & Manpower Training Programs to out-of-school youth who are financially incapable of furthering college education. These programs are funded by the institution, and therefore offered free to qualified students. In a way, all students under these training programs are scholars.

With the growing population of students in the manpower training programs, the institution seeks the financial help of private organizations, companies, and philanthropists in order to sustain its humanitarian goals. Working Hands is one of those organizations that financially support this scholarship program.

Our Scholars

Working Hands started with just 4 scholars in 1996 and now has over 700 with 80% of them in regular employment. Our first scholar, Mr. Jonathan Menguillo, was hired as an instructor at the Don Bosco Youth Center in Tondo. Other graduates from all across the Philippines were hired by FBM, Mitsubishi Cars, Ford Motors and others in organizations both local and international.

EDILBERTO TAYAG

The youngest of 10, Edilberto wasn’t able to go to college and moved to Manila where he worked as a janitor and a messenger before becoming one of the first Working Hands scholars. We watched as, through his own efforts, he built a new future for himself and his family. After graduating from Automotive Technology, Edilberto now works a full-time job in Australia.

From Dagupan to Cebu, Bulacan to Metro Manila, we’ve helped out-of-school youth around the country by giving them a chance at building their own futures. You can help us tell more of these stories of hard work and positive change.

LEND A HAND

A technical manpower course costs around PHP20,000 (USD400). Working Hands raises the same amount for each one of its sponsored scholars.

A donor may sponsor a scholar and donate a full amount equivalent to the course fee; or they may choose to donate an amount for the common scholarship fund.
